Rigorous Academics

Center City PCS teaches a broad liberal arts and humanities curricula and strives to identify each student’s unique academic strengths, challenges and passions. It is our goal to develop the scholar who is academically competitive to attend a top high school program. Every scholar has double blocks of language arts and mathematics along with social studies, science, art, music, physical education and Spanish.

To High School, College, and Beyond!

To ensure that every Center City PCS student is academically and socially prepared to attend the high school of his/her choice, and is college- and career-ready, we will teach to the nationwide Common Core State Standards in 2011-12.

Using Every Minute of the Day WELL

All Center City PCS students receive daily instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students engage in weekly study of the visual arts, music, dance, and physical education/health, and they begin foreign language instruction in Pre-Kindergarten. With a longer and more rounded academic day, students are provided with a wealth of opportunities to learn and grow.

Knowing EVERY Child’s Strengths and Areas of Need

Students who need additional support in core content areas are assigned to interventions to improve basic skills if they are struggling and more challenging work if they are advancing through material quickly. Inclusion specialists, English as a Second Language teachers, and reading specialists work with children who need extra help in meeting grade level goals.
Through their own professional learning, teachers and specialists constantly reflect on the best ways to address the needs of every child in every classroom.

21st Century Learners and Leaders

To fulfill our mission to prepare our students to serve and lead others in the 21st century, Center City PCS provides students with access to computer labs, Netbooks, multimedia, e-readers, graphing calculators, and other tools. Students are able to use many of Center City PCS’s supplemental programs both in school and at home. The yearly Capstone Project provides all students, beginning in Pre-Kindergarten, the opportunity to execute a service project, research report, and presentation on an important global issue.

Honoring Academics and Achievement

Center City PCS hosts yearly events that require discipline, preparation, and study; namely, campus-based and  system-wide Spelling Bees, Science Fairs, Art Shows, and music and dance performances.
